Taekwondo is a Korean martial art, very similar to the styles of Karate utilized by the Japanese. Beginning levels of Taekwondo involve forms (a set pattern of movements) and one-steps (pre-determined moves against an attacker to develop timing and distance). We introduce sparring at the third level, and board breaking at the fourth level (plastic re-breakable boards at levels 4-7, and wooden boards at levels 8 and above). With regards to sparring, in the American Taekwondo Foundation organization, Full contact is not allowed...only light contact. In conjunction with the physical aspects of Taekwondo, training is also mentally/internally practiced by following the
Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance,
Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.
Regular attendance and commitment is essential for progress to occur.
